DaHub Episode One

Episode one (The preface)

There was an unusual calmness in the early hours of that Friday just 3weeks into the new semester. The hostel was known for its liveliness and a lot of movements could be heard even in odd hours during the night owing to the fact that someone was always throwing a party. I guess that will be a normal feature of a hostel with the minimum of 60grand per annum for the smallest room with just few utilities. DaHub is a private mixed hostel built in 2008 to accommodate a little over 200 students. The hostel is managed by an estate firm in Lagos which only sends representatives once in a blue moon and they are responsible for major repairs of the structures set in place. Rent payment isn’t an issue in DaHub, 90 percent of students here are rich and only few are of middle class but they always pay up. Dahub hasn’t really been that popular in the state except within the students community where which the nick-name, the party hub came from. I guess you know why already. Well, unusual fame was about to hit this hostel due to the following events that were about to unfold in the following weeks.

The awareness of the students was drawn to an awkward site. Students were gathered around the basement of the four storey edifice just half a mile from the school gate. No one seemed to be saying anything; apparently they were all in shock as they discover an anomaly that just occurred, drawing the attention of half of the hostel.

About a week Prior

Kike, a 300 level student of economics lives on the first floor in the hostel, room B4, she had just returned from an early morning class and a little bit excited, because that was her only class for the day. She was hungry too, because she had to wake up early and rush to class without eating anything. She got to the front of her room, brought out her keys from her bag and unlocked the door. On entering and shutting the door behind her, she dropped her whole body like a log of wood on the bed. With her back against the rough bed which she left untidy just two hours ago, and her face, facing the ceiling, she thought within herself, what do I eat this morning oooh. While she was pondering on whether she would go for noodles as usual or try something different today, she heard a knock on the door. It was not that loud but it was rapid.

“Who is it?” she asked

“Its Mike jare” The baritone voice responded. 

What is this yeye boy looking for this early morning, isn’t he supposed to be in class or something? She wondered

 “I am coming ooh” She responded reluctantly 

Quickly she took away the bra and pant that were lying on her untidy bed and set some things in order to make the room look more presentable to her nosy visitor. She went to the door and opened it.

“Hi angel, you look beautiful just like the sunrise” Mike greeted her with a smile on his face like a man about to take his first picture.

“Thanks, what can I do you for?” planting an artificial grin on her face

“Kike babe, you know that is bad English right? But you aren’t an English student so I will let that pass. will you at least let a young man in? Haba!”

 With an irritated look, she stepped aside and Mike walked into the room, in style, feeling himself all the way and observing every Conner of the room as he found his way to her bed and sat his butt on it.

“So don’t you have a class today?” she asked him with an interrogating tone. 

“We final year brethren are not always bothered by class palava you know, we read the right stuffs and we pass, as easy as ABC, I am not a fresher like you” He grinned

“Me? Fresher? Dude, I am in 300level, I guess you have a bad memory so let me help your amnesia” she responded in annoyance

“Babe, that was a joke, nawa for you oo, someone cannot even play with you again?” he responded, surprised at her response.

“Whatever! Oya, tell me, why the early visit? I have things to do and I know you are fond of wasting people’s time” she asked, gradually losing her patience as she sat on the only chair in the room and was staring at the young man with a look of  you better be quick about it.

Catching the vibes already, with a more serious look now, he said, “kike, it’s about the guys on the top floor, I didn’t like the scene I saw last night at all. I must say, I know you are a big girl and you know what you are doing but at least you should know what their company says about you”

She smiles a bit “Mike, its 9:30 in the morning and you are here to discuss the same subject we have gone over like a thousand times now. I told you that these guys are cool, they aren’t as terrible as you think and their names are not those guys, they are Alex and Frank, totally normal folks” she paused a bit and asked “By the way, which scene did you see sef, were they in a movie or something?” she said jovially

With a stern look he said “just don’t worry about it, I just felt I should warn you about your company that’s all, it’s your life I know, but rolling with these guys can really get you into trouble, trust me”

“Alright daddy, I will think about what you said and work on it” she said with a smile, although she said that but Mike knew it wasn’t a genuine response. They have been friends for three years ever since Kike came in as a freshman and he knew she was a strong willed person and would always go after what she deemed right. Well, this case wouldn’t be an exception especially when she was beginning to like Alex, who constantly partied like no tomorrow along with his roommate, an unrepentant womanizer. According to Alex, he was all out for love and didn’t womanize but while he remained single, the bottle was his babe. Kike didn’t mind, so far he remained open. Mike on the other hand had always liked kike, from the very day he saw her during her matriculation three years ago, he had always wanted to be more than a friend but he was slow and overtime, she friend-zoned the poor guy who has now become a voluntary advisor she barely listened to.

“Mike dearie, don’t worry, I will be fine ok?” she assured him as he made his exit out of the room and kike shut the door. She pounded for a minute on what he had said and what he could have seen the night before.

 “Well he is just being dramatic and probably jealous, I kuku know that he likes me” she smiled and went on to make herself some breakfast.

It was barely 7pm; Alex was with his roommate, frank. They were in their quite sophisticated room at the top floor of the hostel’s main block relaxing on the bed while jamming some music.

 “Nigga, this Kike babe is totally into me mehn! The babe just keeps giving me green light anytime we are together” Alex smiled, excited, he continued “ Last week during Segun’s bash, I held her hands and you needed to see the look on her face, her eyes were saying, baby, you got me” he laughs out loud. Frank on the other hand busy with his phone said

 “dumb virgin, I can see you are beginning to fall in love like a high school boy”.

With a little attitude in his tone Alex responded “You dey mad ni? Who be virgin? I don calm down ni oo, you are new to the game, so don’t say trash” 

Frank laughed “Guy, I have known you for like 5years now and you have only had like three girls, the third one sef doesn’t count because I feel that girl is too skinny to satisfy any guy plus it looks like she has AIDS...” 

“Shut up hater, that girl is still alive so she doesn’t have bloody AIDS ok? Yeye womanizer” Alex interrupted. Frank relenting, continued with what he was doing. 

“Wow! This babe is hot bruh, you need to see what she sent to me just now?” Alex exclaimed as he gazed at the picture on his phone.

Frank uninterested said “What? Her nude picture? Cos that is the only thing I feel like seeing right now, I have always imagined that babe without anything on” 

 “What! Pervert, not that nah”, Alex said, irritated.

 “It’s her picture on the beach.” Paused and continued “I think she took this shot last semester, gosh she is hot, you wan see am?”

 “Hell no!” frank exclaimed, “What I am viewing here is hotter that the fully dressed chic you are looking at” he said smiling. 

“What is it that, could be more interesting than this?” Alex responded

Frank continued with a big smile “Bimpe without anything on, gosh! This is heaven” 

Alex jumped up and quickly walked straight to where Frank was sitting in the room to feed his eyes with the nude of one of the most beautiful girls on campus sent live and direct to his womanizing friend.

 “Damn!” exclaimed Alex in curiosity he asked “when una parol gel enter this level na?”

 “That is why I told you that you are a virgin bruh, come up higher, we will show you things to come, says the lord of ladies” Frank laughed uncontrollably. Alex gave him an hi –five and and called him the boss. The two laughed over it and saw more pictures Bimpe sent without knowing she had an audience of two.

 

Alex is a 500level student of computer science and his roommate is a student of Psychology having an extra semester. Bimpe won the sexiest girl on campus award, just last session and it was a big deal for any guy to have her as a friend not to talk of dreaming of having her as his babe. Bimpe and Alex are classmates but they have a long time beef which no one knows about. Folks in their class think that Alex doesn’t just feel her parol but he does. She has the perfect shape any guy will die for but to him that doesn’t matter given the fact that she did something to him in their third year during a party organized by the school’s student union. It’s been two years but he hasn’t forgiven her a bit and with these pictures on Frank’s phone, this could mean payback time and he was just so excited. A scandal at that level would mean an end to her ever glorious reputation and Alex was willing to tarnish her image just to get a revenge he had always wanted but Frank on the other hand just felt he had a picture on his phone that he could get excited over anytime he wanted and he wasn’t willing to show anyone. He was an unrepentant womanizer but he wouldn’t share something as personal as that with his friends unless they were very close and that was why he was not hesitant to show Alex thinking that he was making him see something that was better that the picture of Kike he was staring at on his phone but with that singular act, he just unleashed a monstrous desire in his best friend, who was going to take this to any level just for revenge.

Back to the Preceding Friday

It was just 15mins to 7am and the number of students at the scene had increased tremendously. Some people were indifferent about the whole thing while some, especially the ladies, were very horrified. Some of the ladies were shaking as if they had cold; some sharp guys in the hostel used the opportunity to hold them pretending to be caring.

 Kemi looked through the crowd and was unable to see her immediate neighbour, course mate and friend, Kike. Where could this girl be? She thought. Quickly, she dials her number, it took a little while and then a drowsy voice responded 

 “Hello babes” 

Surprised that she could be sleeping while the whole hostel was up, “Ha! Kike, so you are still sleeping, you better come down stairs now, something just happened”

 Still a bit drowsy but more alert, Kike responded “what is it and why is that place nois...?” 

“Just come quickly” Kemi interrupted and dropped the call. In about two minutes Kike was downstairs. As she walked towards the crowded basement, she began to get nervous, not quite long Kemi spotted her and rushed to her, pulling her by the hand. Before kike was able to say anything, Kemi led her to the main scene. Then kike also saws it, shocked and petrified, she exclaimed

 “O.M.G!”
